Abstract

1,177,452. Track brakes. BECORIT GRUBENAUSBAU G.m.b.H. 22 Jan., 1968 [20 Jan., 1967], No. 3207/68. Addition to 1,109,046. Heading F2E. [Also in Division B7] A vehicle for running along a monorail 1, 2, 3, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a bogie having side plates 4, and provided with two pairs of running wheels 11, 11, arranged on opposite sides of the rail web 1 and engaging the upper surfaces of the lower rail flange 3, the invention consisting in that within each wheel 11 and coaxial therewith is a brake shoe 16 urged towards the web 1 by spring rings 18 and retractable from the web by pressure fluid acting on a piston 12 connected to the shoe 16. The brake shoe 16 is secured on a piston-rod 13 passing through a bearing 9 in a piston and cylinder unit 5 secured to the respective side plate 4 by bolts 8. The chamber 21 between the bearing 9 and the piston 12 is connected by a duct 20 and a feed connection 19 to a source of fluid pressure. In another form, the shoe is urged against the web 1 by fluid pressure and retracted therefrom by springs. Guide wheels 27 and 26 are provided at the ends of the bogie, the wheels 26 being pivotally connected to the bogie at 29 and urged by springs 30 against the web 1. Either one or both of the axles of the wheels 26 can be connected, in any suitable manner, to a speed dependent brake applying device (not shown). The device may comprise a centrifugal clutch arranged to open a valve in the pressure fluid circuit.
