Abstract

1351004 Internally ducted body COMPAGNIA ITALIANA WESTINGHOUSE FRENI E SEGNALI 3 Aug 1971 [27 Oct 1970] 36363/71 Heading F2P A body having internal fluid ducts, for use in compressed air braking systems, e.g. on a railway vehicle, comprises two separate members 101, 102 with co-operating faces having therein at least one groove or channel 11-15, 16-20 in each face and registered with each other to form the fluid ducts. The members 101, 102 comprise plates, as shown, which are bolted together. The co-operating faces are sealed, for example by adhesive, in a fluid-tight manner and the plates may be secured together solely by adhesive without the use of bolts. Valve units 27, 28, 29 may be bolted on to the plates and communicate with the ducts through apertures such as 30, 32 in each plate to control interconnection of the ducts and to communicate with the atmosphere through an aperture 35, a pair of registered grooves 36, 37 in the plates, and an aperture 38 in the plate 101. In another embodiment the valve units are housed in recesses formed in a further pair of plates (39, 40) (Fig. 4, not shown) bolted on either side of the plates 101, 102. In a further arrangement the valve recesses are formed in the plates 101, 102, which are made thicker, in the outside surfaces. The recesses are closed by plates (42, 44) (Fig. 5, not shown) screwed or bolted to the plates 101, 102. In a further embodiment, the valve units are omitted and a single groove is provided in each plate (1, 2) (Figs. 1, 2, not shown). Apertures (9, 10) connect the grooves to the atmosphere. The plates in the embodiments may be curved, angular or of other shape.
