Abstract

A trailer relay emergency valve for the braking system of a tractor/ trailer combination is constructed such that the area of the relay piston which is subject to output pressure, (in chamber 8) is divided into two portions respectively subject to the pressures in chambers 14 and 15, communication with chamber 14 being via a throttle 16 or a "leaky" seal 11 to delay the effect of that portion such as to improve the response of the valve and connected brake actuators to rapidly rising brake control pressure (in chamber 6). The valve further comprises a service or control input port 7, brake actuator ports 9, 10, a trailer pressure fluid reservoir port 33 and an emergency pressure port 20. <IMAGE>
