Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A braked guide wheel 4 engages the outside (or inside) of the web of a channel- (or I-) section rail 3 and is keyed to a spindle 5 received in bearings in an inner housing 6 located in an outer housing 7, the housings both being pivoted at 8 to the bogie, wherein the outer housing 7 carries a brake pad 9 and is pivoted at 15 to the rod 14 of a piston 16 acted on by spring washers 21 to apply the brake pad 9 to the wheel 4 and acted on by fluid supplied via 20 to withdraw the pad 9, spring means 10 urging the lower part of the inner housing 6 towards the rail 3 and stops 11, 12 on the bogie 1 limiting the movement of the inner and outer housings 6, 7 about the pivot 8. The cylinder 18 is joined to a similar cylinder for braking a guide wheel at the other side of the bogie 1. The braking means of bogies of a train may be operated individually or collectively.
