Abstract

814,997. Rail vehicle brakes. CHESAPEAKE & OHIO RAILWAY CO. Aug. 27, 1956 [Nov. 23, 1955], No. 26138/56. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXXII] In a road/rail vehicle (see Group XXXII), the rail wheels 13 are supported in axle boxes 92 each of which is rigid with a piston rod 105 of a spring housing unit 102 itself rigid with a beam 104 carrying brake blocks (not visible in Fig. 4). A spring 109 in the housing 102 acts between the piston 111 and the end of the housing, to urge the beam 104 and brake blocks into braking position. A power cylinder 113 has a plunger 115 pivotally connected to an arm 116 which is fulcrumed on the piston rod 105 at 117 and is connected to the housing at 118. Pneumatic or hydraulic pressure applied to the power cylinder 113 thus releases the braking force.
