Abstract

1,035,538. Fluid pressure brakes. NIPPON KOKUYU TETSUDO. Aug. 11, 1964, No. 32706/64. Heading F2F. [Also in Division B7] An arrangement for detecting derailment of a vehicle of a train and automatically applying emergency braking to the train comprises a device operated by the vertical acceleration imparted to the derailed vehicle as it runs on the rail ties or sleepers which vents the train brake to the atmosphere. Each device is positioned adjacent a vehicle axle and may comprise a cylindrical housing C with a cap D secured to the housing and connected via a pipe 4a and normally open valve 5 to brake pipe 1. A breakable plate 7 of a material such as glass is secured between the cap and the housing and prevents venting of the brake pipe via chamber 9 and vent ports 10. A weight 11, vertically slidable in the housing C is maintained by spring 13 in the position shown until derailment of the vehicle when vertical acceleration forces move the weight vertically against the action of the spring whereby a projection 12 on the weight breaks the glass and the brake air pipe is vented.
