Abstract

1309658 Dehairing skins and hides BADISCHE ANILIN-& SODA-FABRIK A G 10 July 1970 [12 July 1969] 33593/70 Heading C6C Skins and hides are dehaired by a process wherein the skins are first treated with a liquor of between thirty and seventy per cent by weight, with reference to the weight of soaked skins and hides, which contains, as percentages by weight with reference to the weight of soaked skins and hides: (a) 0À5 to three per cent of fungous tryptases, (b) two to five per cent of an alkali metal hydroxide, and (c) two to five per cent of an amine, the liquor having a pH of over 11; and, after hydrolysis of the hairs, (d) one to five per cent of a soluble calcium salt is added as a solution, and the liquor is then diluted with water and used for further treatment of the skins and hides. The amine is preferably a secondary amine, e.g. hydroxylamine, hydrazine, diethylamine and/or diethanolamine. The alkali metal hydroxide is preferably sodium hydroxide and the calcium salt is preferably calcium chloride. The pH value of the liquor is preferably between 11 and 14.
