Abstract

1,147,657. Collagen fibres; polyurethane; modified polyamide. SVIT NARODNI PODNIK. 1 Nov., 1966 [13 Nov., 1965], No. 48867/66. Headings C3H and C3R. [Also in Division D1] In Example 1 a polyurethane is made by heating polypropylene-glycol with 2À4-toluene diisocyanate, dissolving in dimethylformamide and water, heating, cooling then adding diethylamine in dimethylformamide, followed later by 2À4-toluene diisocyanate. In Example 3 a modified polyamide is made by depolymerizing a polyamide resin in alcohol with paraformaldehyde, adding H 3 PO 4 , heating then pouring into water to precipitate the polyamide. Collagen fibres are made, see Example 1, by liming cowhide, cutting, deliming in (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 , immersing in two successive amounts of proteolytic enzyme, pickling in NaCl and H 2 SO 4 solution, tanning in alum and chromium trioxide and neutralizing in soda. The tanned material is then washed and disintegrated into an aqueous pulp of fibres. In Example 2 the fibres are made from hair side of cattle necks and limed in a bath of Ca(OH) 2 and sodium sulphide, followed by soaking in a solution of Ca(OH) 2 and Na 2 SO 4 . NaOH is then added to the hide which is then washed. Further working up into fibres is as described above.
