Abstract

264,969. Dehn, F. B., (Stein Fur Dyeing Co., Inc.). Nov. 25, 1925. Bleaching, processes and materials for.-Animal furs are brought to a condition rendering them well suited for bleaching by treatment with a ferrous salt as a. protective agent. Thus the fur skin may be washed three hours with an alkaline solution, e.g. sodium carbonate, and then soaked in an aqueous solution containing from 0.5 to 5.0 per cent by weight of ferrous sulphate, to which is preferably added as a stabilizing agent 0.5 to 5.0 per cent by weight of ammonium chloride. It is stated that subsequent bleaching may be effected rapidly, and without impairing the strength, texture, or lustre of the skins; the fur skins may then be dyed any light or other colour directly, or may be washed and mordanted before dyeing. Proportions for bleaching by hydrogen peroxide are stated. Specification 265,324 is referred to.
