Abstract
1303599 Plastics containers PEPSICO Inc 19 April 1971 [10 March 1970] 23455/71 Heading B8D A container for a carbonated beverage is formed from a polymerizate of an olefinic nitrile (A) and diene-nitrile rubber (B). The nitrile for (A) and (B) has the structure CH 2 =C(R)-CN where R is hydrogen, a lower alkyl group having from one to four carbon atoms or a halogen. The diene for (B) is a conjugated diene such as butadiene or isoprene. The polymerizate may also include monomers such as isobutylene, styrene or an ester of an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid, i.e. CH 2 = C(R 1 )-CO 2 R 2 where R 1 may be hydrogen, an alkyl group having from one to four carbon atoms or a halogen and R 2 may be an alkyl group having from one to six carbon atoms. The polymerizate may be formed by emulsion, suspension, bulk or solution polymerization. The container may be formed by extrusion blow moulding, injection blowing, thermoforming, compression forming or injection moulding combined with blow moulding. The container may be a transparent or pigmented bottle shaped as shown. The annular portion 28 of the bottom may be provided with a friction finish.
