Abstract

1,112,025. Container closures. W. R. GRACE & CO. 30 April, 1965 [28 Oct., 1964], No. 33863/67. Divided out of 1,112,023. Heading B8T. In a method of forming sealing gaskets in container closures, a layer of a composition containing a thermoplastic resilient material is placed therein and comprises (a) a copolymer of an α-mono-olefine with another α-olefinically unsaturated monomer, or (b) a mixture of a poly-α-mono-olefine with a polymer of one or more α-olefinically unsaturated monomers, said polymer not being a poly-α-mono-olefine, or (c) a mixture of polyisobutylene with another poly-α-mono-olefine. and causing the layer to adhere to the closure by the action of heat, pressure or an adhesive. The copolymer (a) may comprise a copolymer of ethylene and propylene or ethylene and vinyl acetate; the latter may be in admixture with polyethylene. Alternatively, it may comprise a copolymer of ethylene with acrylic acid or an acrylic acid ester. The material of the layer may comprise a mixture of polyethylene with either butyl rubber, chlorosulphonated polyethylene or polyisobutylene; it may comprise a mixture of polyethylene, butyl rubber and an ethylene/ vinyl acetate copolymer. Blowing agents, fillers, pigments &c. may be included in the composition.
