Abstract

1412072 Capping bottles MONSANTO CO 23 March 1973 [24 March 1972] 14060/73 Heading B8T An apparatus for capping bottles made of flexible thermoplastic material has a support member 30 that prevents deflection of the bottle transition zone 20 when an axial top load is applied to a closure 32 by a capping head 48. The wall of the support member is curved upwardly between the bottom and side wall at a radius of between 0À318 to 1À78 cm. Resiliently supported rollers 58 deform the thin wall 36 of the closure to engage the thread of the bottle neck. In a modified version the support member 30 may be in two complementary pieces (78a) and (78b), Fig. 5 (not shown).
