1348855 Volume stabilization of moulded articles CONTINENTAL CAN CO Inc 6 June 1972 [12 Aug 1971] 26338/72 Heading B5A Articles moulded from an amorphous thermoplastic resin having a nitrile content of at least 60% and an initial glass transition temperature T a are volume-stabilized by humidifying to a moisture content of at least 1% by wt. to decrease the glass transition temperature to T b , heating to a temperature below Tb and then cooling to room temperature. The article may be a bottle formed by extrusion-blow moulding. The resin may be a copolymer of an α,#-olefinically unsaturated mononitrile, e.g. acrylonitrile, with at least one other olefinioally unsaturated monomer, e.g. methylacrylate, or may be a graft copolymer of the above polymer with an acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber.
