1336869 Cross-linking thermoplastic polymers G T STONE 10 Dec 1971 [18 Dec 1970] 60217/70 Heading C3P Cross-linked polymer articles are produced by (1) forming a melt of a thermoplastic polymer having up to 10% by volume of a polyfunctional non-aromatic monomer, or low polymer thereof, uniformly distributed therein, (2) forming the polymer into an article and (3) subjecting the article to X-radiation to obtain the desired degree of cross-linking. Examples describe the cross-linking by X-radiation of articles formed from polyethylene and (1 to 3) diallyl maleate and (4) a diallyl maleate prepolymer.
