Gun cartridges.-Relates to vent-sealing percussion tubes or primers of the ball and conical-seating type, and consists in associating with an auxiliary charge of fulminate or detonating- composition, whereby the main charge is fired, a copper or other sealing-pellet adapted to be driven by the ignited composition against the conical seating, before and independently of the development of pressure by ignition of the main charge. The main charge a is contained in a chamber of the vent-sealing tube body A which is closed at the rear by a screw plug B having a tubular nipple b covered at the end by the copper pellet D within the conical seating C. The flash from the firing percussion cap E passes by passages a<1>, around the pellet, and through openings b<3>, to fulminate b<1> within the nipple, and thence by a flash passage b<2> to the main charge, from which the fulminate may be normally separated by a thin copper disk b<x>. According to a modification, the fulminate is in two parts, one of which is situated within the copper pellet for the purpose of expanding the same more effectively as it is driven off the nipple.
