Abstract
1296990 Plate heat exchangers E G JOUET and P A P REBUFFE 23 Dec 1969 [27 Dec 1968 20 June 1969 8 July 1969] 62643/69 Heading F4S A heat exchanger consists of a casing 10 containing a spirally wound plate assembly (shown as comprising spirally wound plates 14, 16) defining passages 18, 20 therein for two heat exchanging fluids, said casing defining at the ends of the spiral, inlet and outlet chambers 35, 37 for one of the heat exchanging fluids flowing axially through the passage 20; and said casing containing a centrally disposed tube 12 partitioned, e.g. at 26, to define inlet and outlet chambers 40, 42 for the other heat exchanging fluid which flows via ports 24 in the tube 12, in a spiral path bounded by end closures 32, Fig. 4 (or 34, Fig. 5) and a central partition 28, Fig. 1, first outwardly to a passage 30 and then inwardly back to the centre of the spiral and the chamber 42. The interspaces between the spiral plate assembly and the casing 10 and tube 12 may be filled with a mouldable material, e.g. metal, plastics or concrete (e.g. 46, Fig. 7). At least the plate 14 of the spiral plate assembly is formed with bosses 15, Fig. 4 (and Fig. 6) which extend into contact with the adjacent plate 16 and serve to turbulate the fluids.
