Abstract
1,079,533. Plate-type heat exchangers; refrigerating; heat storing apparatus. J. SAMUEL WHITE & CO. Ltd. Feb. 16, 1966 [Feb. 16, 1965], No. 6648/65. Headings F4H, F4S and F4U. A heat exchanger comprises at least three plate-assembly units, each unit comprising two plates, at least one of which is corrugated or dimpled, the plates being secured together, e.g. by welding, to form between them passages or chambers. The units may serve as storage reservoirs for heat or cold or a flowing fluid may pass therethrough. In the form shown, three such units are assembled together; the central unit 1 comprises two corrugated plates 5, 6 which touch at corresponding crests and are welded together there, and outer units 2, 3 each comprise one corrugated plate 8 and one substantially flat plate 9, which plates are welded together at their points of contact 10. The corrugated plates 8 are brought into close contact with the adjacent plates of the central unit 1, crests of one fitting into troughs of the other, contact being improved by the use of cement of other heat-conducting substance, this cement also being used to fill the space 15 between the edges of the units. The flat plates 9 may be replaced by corrugated plates and further units assembled in like manner (not shown). The passages 7, 11 formed in the units 1, 2, 3 may be sinuous (Figs. 1, 4), access to the passages being afforded by inlet and outlet passages (16, 17, 18, 19) communicating directly with the passages (7, 11) or may be parallel (20, Fig. 8) and connected at their ends to vertical passages (21, 29) to which the corresponding inlet and outlet passages (22, 23, 25, 26) communicate.
