Abstract

1289479 Rotary-piston machines CITY OF COVENTRY, CORPORATION OF 15 Dec 1969 [18 Dec 1968] 60249/68 Heading F1F An I. C. engine has pairs of pistons 13, 15 engaging with an elliptic peripheral wall 1α of a chamber 2 and connected by shafts 11α, 14α to corresponding beams 11, 14, which carry rollers 16 on interlinking-pins, the rollers engaging with cam-tracks 17 externally of said chamber. Pins 10 connect the beams 11 to crank arms 9 fixed to an output shaft 6. The pistons are furnished with seals 13α, 13b, 15α, 15b. Fuel and air mixture is inducted through an inlet 18 and ignited (after compression) by a spark plug at 20. The combustion products are discharged (after expansion) through an outlet 19. To improve radial sealing the roller 16 trailing with respect to each of the pistons 13 may be omitted, Figs. 5 to 8 (not shown). The engine may be modified for compression ignition. Another embodiment, Fig. 9 (not shown), differs largely in that only two pistons are provided, the peripheral wall of the chamber may be asymmetric and the cam track may be on the radially inner side of the roller, Fig. 13 (not shown).
