Abstract

978,210. Rotary-piston internal combustion engines. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Dec. 11, 1963 [Dec. 14, 1962], No. 49031/63. Heading F1F. A rotary piston I.C. engine of trochoidal type includes a piston divided into compartments 5, Fig. 1, by radially extending partitions 6, between the hub 1 and piston flanks 2 connecting the piston end walls 3, Fig. 2. The compartments 5 are supplied with cooling oil from the bearing 4 through ducts 11 located adjacent the trailing partitions of the respective compartments with respect to the rotational direction 9 of the piston. The hub 1 is shortened in the axial direction of the piston to provide outlets 8 from the compartments and preferably a wall 7 midway between the piston end walls 3 divides the compartments 5 into portions 5<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>11</SP>, with the duct 11 discharging equally into both portions. The ducts 11 open nearer to the piston flanks than the hub and those ducts in the compartments nearer the mid-points may be of smaller diameter should this be desirable to produce hot points on the piston.
