Abstract

1287167 Beams COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 29 May 1970 [30 May 1969] 26134/70 Heading E1W [Also in Division F2] A damped stiffened constructional element comprises a series of interconnected partitioning elements 10, 11 which define a series of polyhedric cells; each cell contains a box 7 having one open face at which connection is made to the cell wall, and a damping means 8 is disposed between the box and the cell. The cells may be cuboidal or of hexagonal honeycomb form and the boxes may be parallelepipedal, frusto-conical, pyramidal or cylindrical. The damping means may be a visco-elastic material, e.g. epoxy resin, polyurethane foam, which is poured or injected around the boxes, or a particulate ductile or plastics material, or sand. As shown in Fig. 6, viscoelastic material 8 is disposed between springs 13 and the box 7.
