Abstract

885,051. Collapsible boxes. STARWOOD INDUSTRIES Inc. Sept. 11, 1959 [Sept. 23, 1958] No. 31080/59; Class 18. A knockdown packing-case 10 comprises sidewall panels 11-14 having interlocking rabbeted side edges 17 and rabbeted end edges 21, end wall panels 15, 16 provided with slots 20, interlocking with projections in the sidewall end edges 21 so as to close the case's open ends, and means e.g. strap 28 passing through holes 26 to secure the panels in interlocking relationship. The lower end edges of the sidewall panels 11 and 13 have elongated projecting portions 22a, to either side of which are secured blocks 23 by bolts 24 with a spacer 25 therebetween. In a modification, the end wall edges are complementarily rabbeted so as to interlock with the sidewall end edges, and the case is secured together by screws. In a further modification, see Fig. 9, the sidewall and end wall edges are rabbeted to interlock and the end wall panels are secured together by accentral tie rod having a head 217a at one end and a nut at the other ; this case is suitable for packing a role of sheet material carried on the tie rod by core adapters, and is strapped as at 225.
