Abstract

Regulating. - An auxiliary-air valve connected to the induction pipe comprises a tubular body 1 with inlet and outlet ports 2, 3 and a valve 18 actuated by a solenoid 4 in circuit with a generator driven by the engine, so that the valve is opened when the output of the generator is excessive. The ports 2, 3 are enclosed by a casing 7 fitted above a partition 8 with an inlet pipe for hot air, and below the partition with an outlet connexion 15 leading to the induction pipe. An adjustable inlet for cold air may be provided. The extent of movement of the valve is limited by an adjustable screw cap 30 of non-magnetic material, with an iron screw 31 for holding the valve open and a non-magnetic pin 32 for preventing sticking. The valve is balanced against engine suction by providing opposing faces 20, 21 at either end of a reduced part 19. The valve normally rests on an abutment 23 having a vent. Adjustable weights may be connected to the upper part of the valve to vary the position of the centre of gravity relatively to the solenoid windings.
