Abstract

1281402 Flame treating yarns; tension relieving IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 March 1970 [21 March 1969] 15009/69 Addition to 1179734 Heading B5B [Also in Division D1F] A travelling yarn 1, e.g. a bi-component yarn of polyethylene terephthalate, is entrained in a stream of air and is passed therewith into a passage 5 of a burner and leaves the passage at a point where the air and a combustible fluid, which is supplied separately to the burner through a surrounding passageway 6 terminating at the same point, meet and are ignited, the yarn continuing to move in an axial direction through the flame. As shown, air enters at 4 into casing 3 and the yarn entering via tube 2 is entrained into passage 5 by ejector action. The device 8 is a tension barrier, and operates by blowing cold air through an inclined annular slot 10 in a passage 9 whereby a braking effect is applied to the moving yarn. As disclosed the treatment may effect heat-setting, shrinking and crimping, or in the ease of staple-fibre yarns, singeing of loose fibres.
