Abstract

1,216,810. Steaming apparatus. DUPLAN CORP. 27 June, 1969, No. 32753/69. Heading B5B. [Also in Division D1] A multifilament thermoplastic yarn, e.g. of nylon or polyethylene terephthalate, having crimps, curls or loops and which possesses latent crimp is bulked by overfeeding the yarn, e.g. 10-120%, through a steam chamber and subsequently through a zone of unconfined steam directed outwardly from the chamber in the direction of yarn travel whereby the latent crimp is developed. The wound-up bulked yarn may be dyed and/or heat-set on the package. The steam chamber may be an upwardly directed tube having an open top and a substantially closed bottom through which the yarn passes. Steam enters at the bottom and is blown out at the top to form an unconfined zone round the yarn.
