Abstract
1279584 Casting processes INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKI IMENI E O PATONA AKADEMII NAUK UKRAINSKOI SSR 7 June 1971 19225/71 Heading B3F [Also in Divisions C7 and H5] A metal bar 1 is melted by directing gas in a plasma state together with nitrogen on to the bar. The molten metal is then solidified in a mould 12 which is connected to the electrical power source 5. The melting takes place in a chamber 2 which is filled with a mixture of inert gas and nitrogen at a pressure between 1 and 30 atmospheres. Nitrogen is supplied to the plasma 7 through a device 6. The surface of the molten metal 8 in the mould is covered by a layer of flux fed by a hopper 13. Steel having a high nitrogen content is produced.
