Abstract

1276807 Switches held set and freed mechanically; automatic circuit-breakers ANDERSON POWER PRODUCTS Inc 19 April 1971 [3 April 1970] 25276/71 Heading H1N In a quick-acting switch for disconnecting a heavy current in an electrically driven vehicle, a movable bridging contact 24, Fig. 3, is latched in position between opposed faces 34 of a pair of fixed contacts 18, 20 resiliently biased towards each other by spring clips 16, the circuit being opened by rotation of a latch 60 engaging a shoulder 50, Fig. 5, on a rectilinearly movable contact carrier 38 which is urged to the open circuit position by a compression spring 26. The bridging contact 24 is rotatably mounted on the end of the carrier 38 through an intermediate insulator 40 having pins 44 engaging a groove on the carrier 38 whereby the carrier 38 is free to rotate to even out wear on the shoulder 50. The circuit is initially closed by depression of knob 54, until the latch 60 engages. The latch 60 is releasable manually by a second small plunger (76) Fig. 2 (not shown) operating through a lever (68) to rotate the latch 60. Alternatively the lever (68) may be rocked by a rectilinearly movable armature (84) of a solenoid (82) responsive to under or over voltage or current.
