Abstract
1,181,325. Fusible cut-outs. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 25 June, 1968 [24 Aug., 1967], No. 30202/68. Heading H2G. [Also in Division H1] A drop-out fuse structure 10 comprises a fuse holder 100 between terminals 34 and 36, terminal 36 being pivotable on lower contact 110, with trunnions 44 engaging slots 116, allowing terminal 34 to be rotated into and out of engagement with an upper contact 252 which has adjacent to it a pivotable L-shaped actuating lever 320 with a roller 352 at one end to abut the terminal 34, a latch member 330 pivotably mounted at 373 on the actuating lever, said latch member having a roller mounted thereon to lock projection 263 on terminal 34 in an engaged position. A first spring means 335 biases roller 352 against the terminal 34 and a second spring means biases the latching member towards the fuse holder, whilst an axially movable member 262 projecting from the fuse holder 100 releases the latching means 330 when the fuses blow allowing the actuating means 320 to disengage the fuse holder 100 under the influence of spring 335. The fuse structure may be supported by insulators 272 and 282 mounted to a sheet metal base. The lower hinge contact 110 electrically contacts the terminal 36 by member 150A contacting arm 182. Materials used in the construction of the contact members include beryllium-copper, zirconium-copper or phosphor bronze. The upper contact 252 is generally U-shaped and is made of a resilient conductive metal e.g. zirconium copper. The latching mechanism is housed in an electrically conducting housing 310. The fuse structure 10 may be connected into the circuit by connections to conductive members 372 and 172. A pivotable means 274, operable by a hook stick, is provided on the upper terminal 34 to enable disengagement of the fuse during operation. Cross pin 158 may be fitted to the lower contact to limit the rotation of the fuse unit 100 through approximately 45 degrees when dropping out. A discharge filter may be provided at the lower end of the fuse device.
