127,606. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buckham, Sir G. T. April 27, 1917. Ordnance breech mechanism.-Relates to primer-lock firing- mechanism having a rocking. hammer carried by a sliding lock-frame which can be moved to open position by hand when the breechscrew is locked, and consists in providing a safety device which moves angularly with the breech-screw and engages the hammer to prevent it from being moved either forwards or rearwards, or the lock-frame from being opened, when the breech-screw is unlocked. In the form shown in Fig. 6, a sleeve C has a projection c engaging a recess in an extension of the breech-screw to enable it to rock on the box-slide A<5>. The sleeve C carries a plate C<1> formed with a ledge c<1> to engage with a projection b' on the hammer B when the breech-screw is unlocked. Under these circumstances, the hammer, pivoted at b to the lock-frame A<3>, cannot be moved either rearwards in the cocking direction or forward in the firing direction, and, further, the lock-frame cannot move to the right to extract the used primer and enable a fresh one to be inserted.
