Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-In order that the release of the striker M may synchronize with the locking of the breech-bolt X, locking- levers B, fulcrumed at P to a fixed part of the gun, make direct contact at one end with the breech-bolt and at the other end with the striker. On discharge, the locking-levers B are rocked to unlock the breech-bolt by other levers G operated by a forwardly-moving gas-operated sleeve Z<1> round the barrel. The breech-bolt and striker M then move rearwards, the levers being held against return by a ring F moving with the breech-bolt. In this position, arcuate rear portions A of the levers B come together and seat against the outside of the cylinder Q and coact with a spring-controlled pin D on the striker to arrest and hold it during the time the breech is open. When the breech-bolt reaches the forward firing position, the levers B are returned by springs Y and simultaneously release the striker to effect firing.
