Abstract

391,587. Automatic guns. COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MANUFACTURING CO., Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Moore, F. T. ; Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A.) March 22,.1932, No. 8487. Convention date, April 17, 1931. [Class 92 (ii).] Relates to firing mechanism for recoil-operated automatic guns in which a sear 11 carried by the sliding breech-bolt 5 is moved to release the firing pin by the front end 14a of a triggerlever 14 when the breech-bolt reaches its forward position, as described for example in Specifications 133,351 and 219,932, [both in Class 92 (ii), Ordnance &c.]. According to the present invention, an additional member 18 is provided for automatically holding the breech-bolt in its rearward position, when firing is discontinued, to prevent a live cartridge being left in the barrel. In the cohstruction shown, the member 18 is in the form of a gravity-actuated pawl pivoted at 19 to a spring- controlled rod 23 which absorbs the shock when the pawl engages a notch 20 in the breechblock. When the trigger 16 is operated for continuous fire, the pawl 18 is lifted by the rear end of the trigger-lever the front end of which is then in the path of the sear to effect firing when the breech is closed.
