Abstract

1,272,843. Wall covering. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 Jan., 1970 [11 Feb., 1969], No. 7383/69. Heading B2E. [Also in Division B5] A strippable wall covering material comprises a water permeable fibrous material, e.g. paper having a decorative surface and a discontinuous coating of a water impermeable polymeric material (e.g. polymers or copolymers of vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, vinyl acetate, ethylene, propylene methyl methacrylate or cellulose acetate butyrate) covering 60.90% of the other surface. The discontinous coating may be applied randomly or in regular patterns by kiss coating, pouring, spraying, impregnation techniques and printing, e.g. gravure, screen or wire wound roller. The coating may be impregnated with particles of water activatable adhesive, e.g. starch, methyl cellulose, by incorporating the particles in the coating composition or by sprinkling over the surface. The decorative surface may be provided with a printed or embossed design and can be provided with a water impermeable coating, e.g. PVC polyvinyl acetate or alkyd resin to make the material washable. The fibrous material may be a paper laminate (see Division B5).
