Abstract

1474190 Stencils SAMUEL JONES & CO Ltd 28 Nov 1974 [17 Dec 1973] 58322/73 Heading B6C A stencil formed by cutting a design through a laminate of polyethylene sandwiched between two layers of kraft paper is characterized by the provision of a coating of water-soluble pressuresensitive adhesive on one surface in order that the stencil retains its position on a substrate during its use. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the stencil blank comprises a layer 2 of polyethylene sandwiched between sheets 3, 4 of kraft paper, and the adhesive layer 5; a cover sheet 6 with release coating 7 protects the adhesive. The design pieces 8 are formed by cuts 9 extending only through layers 2 to 5. Thus, the cover sheet 6 is peeled away together with pieces 8 from the stencil just before it is adhered to a substrate; paint is then applied, and the stencil removed after the paint has dried, any adhesive being removed by washing. Alternatively, the pieces 8 can be retained on the wall and the rest of the stencil removed prior to painting; subsequently pieces 8 can be removed to leave a design on the substrate.
