[Also in Division B2] A packaging material comprises a paper base sheet coated with an aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl or polyvinylidene chloride, printed upon when such coating is dry, and finally overlacquered with a solution or dispersion of the same or another transparent coating medium, such as a curing resin, e.g. a polyurethane, the effect of the coatings being to give the print an immersed or semi-floating appearance. The printing and both coating operations may be performed, and the coatings dried and cured during passage through the same machine. The base sheet may be wholly paper, a clay coated paper or a paper-metal foil laminate. The overlacquering may be applied as a pattern and may be heat-sealable.
