Abstract

1,269,370. Rotary compressors. SCHMID & WEZEL. Aug.8, 1969 [Aug. 29, 1968], No.39771/69. Heading F1F. A reversible rotary sliding-vane compressedair engine of the kind comprising a stator Figs. 1, 2, having an eccentric bore 3 located in a housing 2, a rotor 4 having a plurality of axially-extending slots slidably mounting vanes 5 and symmetrically arranged inlets and outlets 14, 18, includes a closing piece 20 on the stator extending between the inlets and outlets over an angle α, which corresponds to the angle between adjacent vanes and an expansion chamber formed between the eccentric bore and the rotor which extends through more than 180 degrees. Compressed air admitted through an inlet 8 urges a spool valve 12 upwardly and enters the engine through a duct 13 and inlet 14 and also lifts a loose-ball valve 15 to pass through axial and radial bores 16, 17 in the rotor to provide smooth starting of the engine. The spent air is then exhausted through outlet 18, a duct 19 and an outlet 10. When compressed air is admitted through an inlet 9 the engine is reversed with the spool valve moving downwardly, 18 then becomes the inlet and 14 the outlet with the spent air again exhausting through the outlet 10.
