Abstract

1,268,184. Dyeing with polymerisable dyes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 April, 1969 [17 April, 1968], No. 18119/68. Heading D1B. [Also in Division C3] Fibrous materials and polymeric films are dyed by treating with a solution or suspension of a mono azo dyestuff of formula I: in which A is the residue of a diazo compoment of the benzene, naphthalene or stilbene series, E is the residue of an ortho-coupling component, P which is directly attached to a carbon atom in the dye is a linkage of formula -O-, -NH- or -NHNH-, Z is a whole number and m is a whole number having a value of at least 2 and then subjecting the material or film to the action of a polymerisation catalyst. Substrates treated include wool, silk, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, cellulose mono- and triacetates, polyurethane and viscose rayon. The catalyst may be applied with the dye after which it is activated by heating or is used after application of the dye. Redox systems, peroxides and azo compounds may be used as catalysts. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,046,751.
