Abstract

1,262,092. Printing with polymerizable dyes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 April, 1969 [17 April, 1968], No. 18123/68. Heading C3P. [Also in Division D1] Textile materials and polymeric films are printed with a dyestuff of the azo, anthraquinone, nitro, triarylmethane, or methane series containing at least one group of the Formula I: in which X is an oxygen atom or a group of formula -NR- in which R is a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl radical, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 each independently represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group in conjunction with a polymerization initiator which may be applied before, with, or after the dyestuff and preferably as 1-200% by weight of the dyestuff used. The dyes may contain up to 4 groups as above optionally with one or more water-solubilizing groups. Substrates printed include wool, cotton, rayon, silk, cellulose acetate, polyurethanes, polyamides, optionally modified polyacrylonitrile, and aromatic polyesters. Polymerization initiators inelude peroxides, hydroperoxides, peracids, peresters, redox systems and azo compounds, e.g. 4,4<SP>1</SP>-azobis (4-cyanopentanoic acid), di-t-butyl diperphthalate and cyclohexanone peroxide.
