Abstract

1,259,282. Dyeing with polymerizable azo dyes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 April, 1969 [17 April, 1968], No. 18115/68. Heading C3G. [Also in Division D1] Polymeric materials e.g. cellulose acetate, polyurethane, polyamides, optionally modified polyacrylonitrile, aromatic polyesters are dyed by applying in either order or simultaneously a polymerization initiator and a suspension or solution of an azo dyestuff free from sulphuric acid groups and containing a group of formula -N[Y n -X] 2 in which each Y is an optionally substituted alkylene group, each n is 0 or 1 and each X is of formula in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 each independently represent hydrogen or a methyl group. The materials may be dyed in presence of monomers other than the dyestuff and optionally in presence of a conventional carrier. The group -N[Y n -X] 2 is preferably attached in a para position of an aryl nucleus to the azo group. Polymerization initiators include hydrogen peroxide, persulphates and 1,1 azobis-1-cyanocyclohexane. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,046,751.
