Abstract

1275251 Dyeing with polymerizable dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 April 1969 [17 April 1968] 18112/68 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions C2 and D1] Fibrous materials and polymeric films are dyed by treating with a solution or suspension of a metallized azo dye containing at least one group of Formula I in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 each independantly is hydrogen or a methyl radical, P is oxygen or optionally substituted imino radical in which case Q is a direct link or a linkage -CO-, -COO-, -CONH-, -CSNH-, or -SO 2 -, or P is -CO- in which case Q represents oxygen or optionally substituted imino radical, Y is an optionally substituted alkylene radical, n is 0 or 1, in conjunction with a polymerization catalyst. Copper, chromium and cobalt complexes are specified and may contain one or more sulphonic acid groups, and may have 2-4 of the above groups. Substrates dyed include wool, nylon, silk, cellulosic materials, polyurethanes, polyacrylonitrile and leather. The polymerization initiator may be applied before, with or after the dyestuff and may be a peroxide, peracid, perester, percarbonate, azo compound or a redox system. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,046,751.
