Abstract

1496274 Basic aryl-n-propyl-1,2,4-triazolo dyes SANDOZ Ltd 10 March 1975 [11 March 1974] 9808/75 Heading C4P Novel azo dyes have, as diazo component, a 1,2,4-triazole bound to the azo link through the 3- position, with an aryl n-propyl group bound to the 1-position of said triazole and are in quaternized form, being free of -SO 3 H groups. More specific compounds have the formula in which K is the radical of a coupling component of the benzene, naphthalene or heterocyclic series or of the aliphatic series having a methylene group capable of coupling, R is H or unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, R 1 is unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or alkenyl, R 2 is unsubstituted or substituted aromatic carbocyclic group, and A<SP>#</SP> is an anion, which compound is free from -SO 3 H groups. The dyes are produced by quaternization of the appropriate azo dye using (a) a compound R 1 -A or (b) by addition reaction employing an R 1 releasing epoxide or vinyl compound in the presence of an acid HA. The compounds may be used for dyeing or printing homopolymers or copolymers of acrylonitrile or asymmetrical dicyanoethylene, polyamides or polyesters, leather and paper.
