1353474 6-Hydrozy-pyridin-2-one derivatives IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 Sept 1971 [25 Nov 1970] 56074/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division C4] Compounds of the formula where Z is H or CONH 2 ; X is C 1 -C 4 alkyl or a group of formula where R<SP>1</SP> is C 1 -C 4 alkyl or alkoxy; Y is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, a group of Formula (II) in which R<SP>1</SP> is C 1 -C 4 alkoxy, a group of formula or a group of formula where R<SP>1</SP> is C 1 -C 4 alkyl or alkoxy, at least one of X and Y containing a sulphonated benzene nucleus, are prepared by heating a compound of formula where X<SP>1</SP> is C 1 -C 4 alkyl or C 1 -C 4 alkyl- or alkoxyphenyl and Y<SP>1</SP> is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, benzyl or alkoxyphenyl, alkylbenzyl or alkoxybenzyl in a sulphuric acid medium. The compounds are used as intermediates in the preparation of azo dyestuffs.
