Abstract

1275625 Monoazo dyes SANDOZ Ltd 17 June 1969 [19 July 1968] 30615/69 Heading C4P Novel azo dyes are of formula in which R 1 is H or halogen, R 2 is an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, phenyl or amino group, R 3 is an alkyl group which may be substituted by one or more halogens or OH groups, or by one or more phenyl, alkoxy, phenoxy, benzoyloxy, phenoxycarbonyloxy or , alkoxycarbonyloxy groups which may be further substituted, R 4 is an alkyl group which may be substituted other than by a cyano group. R 5 is an acyl radical which has the formula R-X- or R<SP>1</SP>-Y- where R stands for an alkyl or phenyl radical which may be substituted and may bear hetero atoms, X is -O-CO or SO 2 , R<SP>1</SP> is H or R, Y is -CO-, -NH<SP>11</SP>CO-, or -NR<SP>11</SP>SO 2 -, and R<SP>11</SP> is H or R, and R 6 is H or an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or alkoxy groups and the whole molecule is free from sulphuric acid groups. These compounds may be produced by coupling a diazotized amine of formula with a compound of formula preferably in a cooled acid medium buffered with sodium acetate or reacting a compound of formula where halogen represents a chlorine or promene atom with a metal cyanide in an organic solvent.
