Abstract

Fibrous materials and polymeric films are dyed with dyes containing two dissimilar polymerisable olefinically unsaturated groups as defined each of the groups being directly attached to a carbon atom optionally in conjunction with a polymerisation initiator. Preferably the polymerisation initiator is applied simultaneously with or after the dyestuff and is 1-500% by weight based on the weight of the dyestuff. The dyes optionally contain sulphonic acid groups and may be azo, phthalocyanine, anthraquinone, nitro, methane, triarylmethane, diarylmethane, xanthene, azine, onazine or thiazine dyes. Substrates dyed by dyeing, padding or printing methods include, polyesters, polyamides, polyurethanes, optionally modified polyacrylonitrile, wool, silk, cotton, cellulose acetate and triacetate, viscose and caproammonium rayon.
