Abstract

1,262,923. Coating pipes. CONTARDO S.p.A. 30 Jan., 1969 [31 Jan., 1968], No. 5172/ 69. Heading B2L. [Also in Division F2] A double acting piston 21, Fig. 3, slidable upon a fixed pin 22 within a cylinder 20, has a hollow ended stem slidable within a fixed sleeve 24 formed at its outer end with apertures 23 which are closed by the stem of the piston 21 when the latter is shifted to its left hand end position by the admission of fluid into cylinder 20 through port 28. The end of a tube 26 is then positioned on pipe 22 within the hollow end of the stem of piston 21 and the latter is then moved rightwards by fluid admitted through post 31. The apertures 23 are thereby uncovered and adhesive passes therethrough from the annular space 29, fed under pressure by pipe 30, on to pipe 26 where it is spread to a desired thickness by a ring member 25 when the pipe is withdrawn. For coating the internal surface of a pipe the adhesive is supplied through a stem 34, Fig. 2, over which the piston slides and the end of which, carrying a spreader 37, is inserted in the pipe. Movement of the piston to the right opens windows 36 in the stem through which the adhesive flows on to the pipe surface, on which it is spread by spreader 37 when the pipe is withdrawn. The apparatus is used for coating the exterior surfaces of two ends of a U-pipe and the internal surfaces of straight pipes to be joined together by the U-pipe, the latter being held by a block and hammered into position.
