Abstract

1422378 Cable tensioner MESSIER-HISPANO 15 May 1973 [16 May 1972] 23063/73 Heading F2G In a telescopic cable tensioning device which maintains a constant tension under varying ambient temperature and other conditions, a pocket of inert gas in a hollow rod 1 transmits pressure through hydraulic fluid also in the rod 1 and in an annular chamber in a slidable sleeve 17 to an annular shoulder joining sections 2, 4 of the rod 1. The length of the hollow rod 1 in contact with the ambient air is constant. As shown, the rod 1 is more than half full of hydraulic fluid and inert gas is admitted under pressure through a valve 7. The opening 10 of a tube 8 is always covered by fluid whatever the orientation of the device. A clock valve at the end of the tube 8 restricts flow of hydraulic fluid from the annular chamber into the rod 1 more severely than flow in the opposite direction.
