Abstract

The device for limiting the flame height of a liquefied-gas fuelled pocket lighter is based on fitting a compressible, gas permeable, element in the gas path. This element (16) - of organic or synthetic material - is inside a cup shaped metal casing (18) with a central hole (19) in the closed end. Uncompressed, it has a dia. larger than the cup bore; it is held inside this by a cylindrical piston (20) upstream, with peripheral axial grooves (21). As a result compression of the element, and thus resistance to the passage of gas, decreases linearly in the direction of flow.
