Abstract
1,262,609. Pressure gauges. SULZER BROS. Ltd. Aug.20, 1970 [Aug. 20, 1969], No.40257/70. Heading G1C. In a gauge for measuring peak pressures in periodically varying gas pressures, such as in the cylinder of an I. C. engine, pressure surges are transmitted periodically, through a duct 18 to lift a piston 21; against the force of a measuring spring 33, by way of the head of a screw 22 and a flange 41 of an adjusting member 40, a screw 31 to a measuring member 26; over a distance no more than "S" and a measuring member 36 is also lifted out of functional engagement from a component 35 thus permitting a spring 37 to rotate member 36 in order to again abut the component 35. When the pressure drops the piston 21 is moved to the initial position by a disc spring 24 but the member 26 cannot follow since it is held by the member 36 and a gap would appear between the flange 41 of the member 40 and disc 23, which gap is closed by a spring 44 rotating member 40 into abutment with the disc 23, and as a result the measuring member 26 gradually moves upwards to compress spring 33 until the force exerted thereby cannot be overcome by the gas-pressure acting on piston 21 and since the rotational movement of member 40 is proportional to the stroke of member 26 the measured value can be read off a scale provided on a cap 48.
