Abstract
790,502. Pressure gauges. BUDENBERG GAUGE CO., Ltd. July 9, 1956 [July 8, 1955], No. 19753/55. Class 106 (2). A dual-range free piston pressure gauge has a cylinder C housing a first piston A capable of restricted movement under pressure, and a second piston B arranged coaxially within the first piston and carried by a weight-applying stem b projecting from the end of the cylinder C, the stem b also engaging the first piston A when this latter is floating. Fig. 1 shows the gauge being used to measure low pressures. The first or low-pressure piston A is mounted in a cylinder d<SP>1</SP> in the casing C and connected to a source of pressure through a passage c<SP>2</SP>. The platform bl has skirts b<SP>2</SP> to indicate the positions of the pistons. The second piston B is mounted on the stem b and comes into operation when a high pressure forces the piston A against a shoulder d<SP>2</SP> on the casing C, a sealing ring a<SP>1</SP> preventing leakage between the piston A and the shoulder d<SP>2</SP>. The stem b is prevented from being forced out of the cylinder by means of a shoulder b<SP>3</SP> engaging a cap c.
