An hydraulic drawbar dynamometer in which a pull tending to separate a piston assembly 11, 19 from a cylinder assembly 12, 14 creates an hydraulic pressure in the cylinder 12 proportional to the pull has a connection 30, 35 to a pressure gauge (not shown) through the pistonrod 21 of the piston assembly. Fluid is contained in chamber 31 and seals 17, 20, 22, 25 and 26 prevent escape of the fluid.
