Abstract

1,262,164. Cooling fuel injectors. GKN FLOFORM Ltd. May 15, 1970 [June 7, 1969], No.28905/69. Heading F1B. A sleeve 10 arranged in a cylinder head 11 for locating a fuel injector 15 and passing through cooling jacket 24, comprises a main part 12 connected to a nose part 13 by a shoulder 14 having sealing ribs 25, 26 therein for preventing leakage of the coolant into the cylinder 18. As shown, the rib 25 is initially higher than the rib 26 but when the sleeve is properly fitted to the head the rib 25 deforms until the rib 26 engages abutment surface 21 on the head. The shoulder 14 and surface 21 may extend in planes normal to the sleeve axis as shown or they may be of frusto-conical form. The sleeve may be made in copper or copper alloy by a cold forging technique.
