Abstract

1,261,831. Burners. NIPPON KOKAN K.K. 14 Jan., 1969, No. 2265/69. Heading F4T. A device functioning either as a burner e.g. of fuel oil and oxygen, or as an oxygen lance, comprises an oxygen supply tube 1 having three symmetrically disposed convergent-divergent (Laval) outlet nozzles 8 at one end, and a concentric inner fuel supply pipe 2 having its outlet end fitting in a socket at the outlet end of tube 1 and connected to a distributing chamber 12 therein, the chamber being connected to each nozzle 8 at the outlet side of the nozzle throat 18 by a corresponding bore 7. Under high pressure the oxygen attains supersonic flow through the nozzles, and the fuel is vaporized as it enters the nozzles. The axes of the nozzles are at a small angle to the longitudinal axis of the tube. There is provision, 3-6, for water cooling. (For Figure see next column.)
